Why Managers Have to Read and Use Management Theory?

Clayton M. Christensen and Michael E. Raynor published an article in Harvard Business Review, September 2003 with the title "Why Hard Nosed Executives Should Care about Management Theory."

Theories are statements predicting which actions will lead to what results.

Managers are taking decisions and implementing them to get the desired outcomes. Every manager is using a theory implicitly. But is the theory being used properly developed and tested? When managers use as the basis of their decision, unargued and untested input-output ideas, the failure rate of the actions will be high.

Managers have to monitor the theory development on a periodic basis and use proper theory to make decisions and execute them.
